Add your website to Google Search Console

Google Search Console is a free tool by Google that helps you monitor your site’s presence in Google Search results, and to help Google understand your site better. This article explains how to add and verify your WordPress website to Google Search Console.

If you haven’t already, sign in to Google Search Console –

Click the Add A Property button and type in the full URL to your website. Don’t forget to include http:// and www if applicable. Google Search Console treats each variation as a different property.

In the next step, Google will ask you to verify your site. Their recommended method is the HTML file upload, however we find it easier to use one of their Alternate methods. Choose the HTML tag method.

Alternate verification methods in Search Console

Copy the provided code pictured above. Now, you can add the code to your website using one of the following methods:

Yoast SEO

Navigate to your WordPress Dashboard → Yoast SEO → Dashboard. Then click to the Webmaster Tools tab. Paste the code into the Google Search Console field and click the Save Changes button.

Genesis themes

If you use a Genesis theme, activate the Customizer (Appearance → Customize) then navigate to Theme Settings → Header/Footer Scripts. Paste the code into the Header Scripts box. Don’t forget to Save Changes.

Return to Search Console and click the Verify button. Congratulations, your website has now been added to Google Search Console.

Add ClickWP as a user

If you’d like ClickWP to help review your Search Console reports, please add [email protected] as a full user for that property.
