Google Search Console is a free tool by Google that helps you monitor your site’s presence in Google Search results, and to help Google understand your site better. This article explains how to add and verify your WordPress website to Google Search Console.
If you haven’t already, sign in to Google Search Console – https://search.google.com/search-console
Add Property
Once logged in, you’ll see reports for your website. Click on the property selector and then choose Add Property.
The Add Property box will appear.
There are 2 methods to add your property: by domain and by URL. The domain option is Google’s preferred method but is more difficult to complete; you cannot complete this step with just your WordPress website.
Choose the URL prefix method. Type in your website URL, complete with https://
and click Continue.
Verify with HTML tag method
Next Google asks you to verify your property. Choose the HTML tag verification method:
Copy the provided meta tag code. Now, you can add the code to your website using your SEO plugin.
In Yoast SEO, navigate to your WordPress Dashboard → Yoast SEO → Dashboard. Click to the Webmaster Tools tab. Paste the code into the Google Search Console field and click the Save Changes button.
In Rank Math, navigate to your WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math → General Settings. Click to the Webmaster Tools tab. Paste the code into the Google Search Console field and click the Save Changes button.
Clear your website cache if applicable.
Return to Google Search Console and click the Verify button. Congratulations, your website has now been added to Google Search Console.
Add ClickWP as a user
Once you’ve verified your site, you can invite others to view your reports.
If you’d like ClickWP to access your Search Console reports, please add [email protected]
as a full user for that property.
Navigate to your property settings (in the left side navigation). Click on Users and Permissions then click the blue Add User button.
Provide a valid Google account email address and assign Full or Restricted permissions. Click Add to complete the process.
